What the report covers
The report is built to help a property owner or applicant understand the arboricultural information needed for the next permit step. It is prepared for the requesting jurisdiction and the records supplied for the engagement.
01
Jurisdiction-aware review
Review of the applicable local permit context and relevant records so the report addresses the stated next step without presenting legal advice or an approval prediction.
02
Documented tree observations
Species, DBH, condition observations, and photographs for the single identified tree at the single property, documented during the site visit.
03
Relevant record review
Review of the relevant records confirmed during consultation based on the jurisdiction and permit-readiness question.
04
Written next-step deliverable
A written report suitable for the next permit step. It supports the application process; it does not file the permit or guarantee that a city or county will approve it.

Sonoma County permit context
For parcels in unincorporated Sonoma County planning jurisdiction outside the Coastal Zone, County Code § 26-88-080(M) generally requires a ministerial zoning permit to remove a County-defined protected tree unless an exemption applies. The code covers native Sonoma County tree species identified in its list, including natural hybrids. Its size-related site-plan and mitigation provisions use the boundary “greater than six inches (6″) DBH.” For non-exempt removals, a use permit is required for redwoods with a single-stem DBH exceeding 48 inches, or oaks and other hardwoods exceeding 36 inches. See the County’s Tree Protection Ordinance update record and the adopted Oak Woodland Ordinance.
Some public-safety, defensible-space, qualifying hazardous-tree, and basic property-maintenance removals are exempt, subject to the ordinance’s conditions. Parcels mapped in the Oak Woodland Combining District may also have separate requirements for oak removal or woodland impacts. The applicable rules can depend on the parcel, tree, and proposed work.
Incorporated cities have their own requirements. Consult Santa Rosa’s Tree Removal & Preservation guidance or the City of Sonoma’s Municipal Code, Chapter 12.08 as applicable. Verify the address and ask Permit Sonoma or the applicable city before acting; the summary here cannot determine which rules apply to a particular property or tree.
This is a practical reference, not legal advice. CanopyMetrics does not sell tree work, and this report does not guarantee permit approval.
