What a tree health and risk assessment considers
A tree’s health describes its observable condition. Risk assessment also considers whether a tree part could fail and affect a person or property in the area. CanopyMetrics uses ISA TRAQ methodology for tree-risk assessments.
Depending on the question and agreed scope, an assessment may consider visible tree conditions and structural features, site context, and how nearby areas are used. This helps frame the arborist’s observations in relation to the people or property that could be affected.
What the assessment may document
A written report may identify the trees and areas included, describe observable conditions and relevant site context, and explain the arborist’s analysis and recommendations. It should also state the assessment date, methods and access used, and limits that affect the findings.
The right deliverable depends on why the assessment is requested. Property owners, HOA representatives, and property managers can share the question they are trying to address so the scope and intended use of any report can be discussed.
Scope, independence, and limitations
The engagement defines which trees or areas are included, the question being considered, available access and methods, and the intended written deliverable. Findings and recommendations are limited to that scope and to conditions observable during the assessment.
A dated, scope-limited assessment cannot guarantee a tree’s future condition or safety. Trees and site conditions can change, and some conditions may be concealed or outside the assessment. CanopyMetrics does not perform or sell tree work; any decisions about recommendations remain with the property owner or responsible party.
