ISA Certified Arborist
ISA Certified Arborist
The base credential of the arboricultural profession — the holder has demonstrated competency in tree biology, identification, maintenance practices, safety, and applicable standards. Issued by the International Society of Arboriculture.
Why this matters to counsel: Under Daubert / Kelly-Frye, expert qualifications must be demonstrated by more than self-professed expertise — the expert's credentials must be verifiable and the foundation for opinions must be traceable to established standards. ISA certification is the baseline qualification for admissibility of arborist opinions in California Superior Courts and federal court. The cert number (#WE-12351AU) is included in all expert disclosures and reports per California court requirements and is verifiable at treesaregood.org. FRCP 26(a)(2)(B)(i) and CCP 2034.220(b) both require statement of all relevant credentials — ISA cert number is the starting point.
